Urbanity opened in Gastown in December 2004 bringing beautiful clothes to Vancouver made by caring hands from natural materials.
The clothes we carry are ethically made in small factories and workshops from quality fabrics, designed by women with strong values.
In May 2010 Urbanity moved to the 2400 block of South Granville. It was a good move. Our customer base now extends across Canada and beyond. We realize that we are a link in a chain of smaller independent shops found all around the world, run by hard-working (mostly) women who have a similar philosophy.
We are excited to announce that in September 2018 Urbanity will have a new owner. Nina Dolleris has been working in Urbanity for more than a year. Six months ago, Nina expressed the wish to take over the shop. She feels at one with the concept, and is excited to steer Urbanity into the future. Nina is a tenacious Dane, and I am delighted she is taking over.
Urbanity will continue to carry the same brands that you have come to know and love, including OLEANA. Nina will be bringing in new brands that have the same concern for design, quality, sustainability, and are fair-made: made by people being paid a living wage.
For a period of time, I will team up with Nina to look after the social media, the website, and continuing to write the newsletters. Urbanity is a little shop that is a big job to run, and I am confident Nina has the energy, enthusiasm, and curiosity, to do it.
The shop will close for a couple of weeks in September and will open again filled to the brim with wonderful colourful clothes, and masses of accessories for the cooler weather.
